This is a permanent, full-time position.
Bishop Grosseteste University (BGU) is located on a beautifully green and pleasant campus just a few minutes’ walk from Lincoln Cathedral, Castle, and the old Roman city. Our story began in the 1860's as an Anglican teacher training college for women, which makes us one of the oldest Higher Education Institutions in the UK. Since then, we've grown, adapted, and modernised to become the thriving university we are today. We're still experts in teaching and education, but we've now got a wider portfolio of exciting degree courses than ever before. We currently offer courses in a wide range of subjects, from Undergraduate Degree level to PhD, and much more in between.
We are seeking to appoint an Estates Officer (Mechanical) to join our busy Estates team, to deliver a first-class service to Students, Staff and Visitors to the University. You will be expected to work 37 hours per week during a period of 5 out of 7 days as required. (This will include occasional weekends to cover the absence of the Weekend Estates Technician).
This position serves as the first point of contact for all reported maintenance and Help-desk tasks, conducts statutory compliance checks, and supports student learning. The ideal candidate should have training, background, or experience in mechanical maintenance of buildings and grounds. Responsibilities include adaptation/repair, reactive, planned, and preventative maintenance work, including system checks and, when necessary, problem diagnostics for all mechanical building services across the University’s estate, ensuring compliance with current regulations. The candidate should be able to respond to and have experience with basic Fire and Security Alarm systems. Confidence in interacting with students, staff, and the public, along with clear and accurate communication skills, is essential. A good working knowledge of Microsoft applications such as Word and Outlook is required. While the role involves working as part of a team, there will be occasions when independent work is necessary. Therefore, the ability to assess, prioritise Help-desk tasks, and document actions taken to complete the job is crucial.
BGU offers a generous employee benefits package including:
- 25 days holiday for Grades 1-6
- 35 days holiday for Grades 7+
- Plus 3 additional discretionary days annual leave over the Christmas period
- Various pension scheme options including a Teachers Pension scheme offering up to 23.68% Employer Contribution, and BG Flex (a private pension scheme managed by Aviva) offering a 10% employer contribution and the employee contributions are voluntary and flexible.
- Cycle to Work Scheme
- Electric Car Salary Sacrifice Scheme
- 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme including face to face counselling sessions
- Agile Working Scheme to support employees work-life balance
