Learning Development Tutor

This is a permanent, full-time post and the hours of work will be 37 hours per week. Normal hours of work are Monday to Thursday 8.30a.m. to 5.00p.m. and 8.30a.m. to 4.30p.m. on a Friday. However, some flexibility is required to cover early mornings and evenings plus some weekends; hours of cover are 8.00 a.m. to 8.30 p.m.

Applicants for this post should be graduates, with experience of teaching or supporting learning in a higher education environment and confident in dynamically presenting to large groups of students and colleagues. Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills are essential for this role, as well as academic skills such as a range of written and verbal formats, referencing and plagiarism. Postgraduate or teaching qualifications would be an advantage.

We are looking for a dynamic, innovative individual who is committed to best practice in developing students’ academic skills from Foundation Year to Doctoral Studies. They will lead on our learning development strategy playing a key role in enhancing the undergraduate and postgraduate student experience at Bishop Grosseteste University.

Applications are invited for the above post in the University’s Learning Development team which is part of the Centre for Enhancement in Learning and Teaching (CELT). The person appointed will be co-responsible for planning and delivering an integrated range of academic practice activities, working directly with students, academics, personal tutors, and professional support staff, to help all students achieve their full academic potential.

The Learning Development Tutor will provide individual tutorials, group workshops and staff CPD sessions, focusing particularly on innovative and collaborative academic practice. This post involves developing creative resources to innovatively support the development of students’ academic practices. Working closely with academic staff to establish, enhance and deliver academic skills development within academic programmes, the successful applicant will develop strategic approaches to enhance academic learning development across the University’s portfolio from Foundation Year to Doctorate.
