Hourly Paid Lecturers on the History and Military History Programmes 

Bishop Grosseteste University is based in the historic uphill area of the city, just a ten-minute walk away from the castle and cathedral and a range of other cultural and historical attractions. The University is seeking to appoint well-qualified and versatile Hourly Paid Lecturers for History and Military History. We are explicitly seeking those with expertise to deliver in the following areas:

    Early Modern Britain: From Reformation to Revolution

    The Atlantic World in the 17th and 18th centuries

    Soldiers, Sailors and Ships: Warfare in the long 19th century

    Crime, Justice and Punishment: 1750-1950

    Into the Blue: War in the Air

    The Cold War and the Space Age

This post represents an outstanding opportunity to teach on a range of History courses at Bishop Grosseteste University. The successful candidates may deliver on programmes at Foundation Year, undergraduate and postgraduate level. Experience of teaching at these levels would be advantageous.

Please note, these are casual, hourly paid positions and we are advertising this position to create a pool of candidates. There is no guarantee of any hours.

Recruitment and appointment of Hourly Paid Lecturers is based on merit and equal employment opportunity principles, with all new Hourly Paid Lecturers being interviewed, either by phone, or in person. A candidate’s suitability is assessed against selection and appointments are offered subject to the candidate meeting the requirements of the role. As a minimum, an Hourly Paid Lecturer must have:

  • A right to work in the UK with no relevant work restrictions;
  • An honours degree or appropriate equivalent professional qualification;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Relevant and/or recent industry or academic experience.

The University may appoint professional or industry experts, and where appropriate, academics from other institutions to deliver specific aspects of their teaching. A DBS check and verification of professional membership may also be required where necessary for the role.

Standard rates of pay from the 1st of August 2021 are as follows:

• Standard Teaching Rate: £43.79 per hour

• Placement and Work-based Learning Rate: £34.57 per hour

• Instrumental Tuition Rate: £31.04 per hour

• Marking and Non-contact Rate: £21.89 per hour
