Visiting Tutor - History

The University is seeking to appoint Visiting Tutors for History in support of its undergraduate programme, which commenced in 2017-18. Historians with an expertise in the following areas are sought:

  • Military History (Medieval through to 21st century);
  • history of the British Empire (17th century to First World War);
  • late medieval through to early modern Britain;
  • US post-1945 with Cold War specialism.

Suitably qualified candidates with experience of teaching undergraduate historical skills and theory modules are also welcome to apply.

These tasks are covered in the job description and supporting information. We are looking for people who are able to share their knowledge and experience with our undergraduate students and enable them to begin to think critically about the wider field. We will provide excellent support and guidance to enable you to do that.

Military History at Bishop Grosseteste University is a new and developing subject at undergraduate level but joins BGU’s existing undergraduate and post graduate provision. The University has well-developed partnership and relationships with schools teaching History, and through the regional branch of the Historical Association.

Any appointment made will be at our current Visiting Tutor teaching rate (£43.01 per hour) or at a non-contact rate for marking (£21.50 per hour), subject to annual review. The contract commits staff to a range of professional criteria and responsibilities, including work which the University may require as the need arises.
